Yeah, he's ace! He did that one just for the magazine. It was printed in the pilot but didn't graduate into the actual (new) one.

"The poor guy pays more", as they say, because he runs through five pairs of cheap and uncomfortable shoes while the rich guy just gets ONE good pair and ends up enjoying top quality for the same amount of time.
So we should learn again that it´s worth to save up for buying GOOD products that last for a looong time. Not buying an iMac or similar stuff seems a good way to go, as is not to make credit card debt never, ever. Life will be a lot easier the next time you´re stuck in the Caribbean.

That is what I liked most too. He was such an amazing pansy.

I enjoyed his candid letter to his grandaddy too about how he found himself wanking around the clock and unable to perform for a prostitute. Three shillings for the broken chamber pot etc.

I like 'How Proust Can Change Your Life', mainly for the descriptions of him as the ultimate Jewy mama's boy, whining in bed all day and firing off daily missives about his bowel movements. I like Proust too, although I have only read Swann's Way a few years ago. I have the whole set on my shelves. The spines make a picture when put together, like the Mr Men books. You are lucky you live near the Saxon gold, I really want to see it. It'll probably make its way south soon. I'm glad it's worth the queue. Audience theory is really interesting, I want to read more about it.

Thanks. Initially I was labouring under the misapprehension that Alan Clark was a twat. But Wikipedia has recently informed me that he was a vegetarian, so it's not all bad news. If the green tree people win the next election I am going to emigrate to the Netherlands.

I'm with Holly. The only good thing about the past is student grants. That, and Fred Astaire. I do wish that there was an Alan Clarke figure in the modern Tories, or green tree people or whatever they're called.

I had the same realization the day I left Winnipeg for Vancouver, in 1991. I held up an empty keychain, and told my friends, ‘Today I am a free man!’

True, I have acquired keys again since, but never more than a couple at a time, and that moment has stayed in my memory as a warning: every key represents a lock, every lock a feared loss, every fear a neurotic attachment.

I look forward to the day when I can again walk around with not one key in my pocket.

Hi there, great blog, Im writting you from the other side of the planet. Same stupid system here, same perverse logic, same problems, same shit, just different language

Stuff...
I know it is what gets to lock us into slavery. Still, while I do not aim at luxury or shallow spending, there are some things that are hard to break the habit to own. In a better world, one would be content with healthy food, water, health care and lots of free time. What kind of stupid needs a 400 hp flashy car? Some would argue "oh, but a better world would be boring" These people just have no imagination.
Have you ever calculated how much time you spend "educating" yourself to survive in this stupid system? Have you ever compared that time with how much time you have dedicated to enlighten and cultivate your feelings? Once we become more humane, loving and comprehensive, we will never be bored again. Instead of worrying about getting the last iPod, cell phone or sports car, we will worry for what is important. We will spend our time wandering into our innerselves, and into our loved one's souls. That can never be a boring activity, but a growing time. It is that we believe a stupid sport car is a mavelous thing. But it is not. The only real wonderful beings are us and to consider a thing more worth than us is to be corrupted and alienated.

It's not really is it? Satirical suggests "Private Eye" and at least party politics. We have a humourous edge I suppose and a political one too, but we're not a satire.

We're happy with Sartorialism though, as you say. I entered a "Young Enterprise" business competition as a teenager: my company didn't make much money (though we did okay through a sponsorship deal) but we won an award for "Sartorial Elegance". Score.

Great to get a mention in the Urban Dictionary, although I've not thought of NE as satirical before. _Notes on Affected Provincialism_ in issue 1 does mention things _sartorial_ in passing though.
